SUMMARY: Sets up, programs, and operates all CNC machines in the machine center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Sets up all quality related and production control documentation.
  • Uses micrometers, calipers, shadow graph and other precision measuring devices to check parts against specifications and tolerance limits.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, and enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts and programs machine controls as required.
  • Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Verifies conformances of finished work piece to specifications.
  • Confers with engineers, machine operators, production operators, or others to resolve machining problems.
  • Responsible for the production rates, set up times, and efficiencies of the programmable machine center, and for the training on all shifts on programming and manipulation of all computer controlled machines.
  • May do design work, offset fixtures and other tooling as needed.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Requires knowledge typically acquired through,

  • Completion of a two year college, vocational, or technical degree with related training,
  • Three to five years of machining experience and two years of machine programming experience, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, along with a solid understanding of Mastercam.
  • Basic understanding of ProE and/or AutoCad required.
  • Also requires the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
